The age-old culture linked to tuna and tuna-fishing, which is reflected here in a centuries-old fishing tradition that started in 1738, the year the town was founded, is the common element of a unique event that involves gourmets, internationally renowned chefs, experts in tuna cooking, journalists and experts in Mediterranean gastronomy, appointing Carloforte as the “Capital of quality tuna”.

The ancient and characteristic town of Carloforte, route for the “runners of the seas”, will once again become the stage for a precious event of comparison and cultural exchange between the Mediterranean regions that still keep alive the culture of tuna and tuna fishing.


Tuna Cuisine Competition
The heart of Girotonno is the Tuna Cuisine Competition , the international gastronomic competition between chefs from 4 countries who present original recipes based on cooked and raw tuna.

The dishes will be judged by a technical jury, made up of journalists and experts in the sector, chaired by Paolo Marchi , creator of Identità Golose . A popular jury, made up of visitors to the event, will also vote. The race will be conducted by Federico Quaranta , journalist and host of Linea Verde (Rai1) and by Valentina Caruso , face of Sky Sport.

The appointments of the Tuna Competition are subject to charges. The cost of the ticket is 15 euros and entitles you to a seat in the stalls to attend the international tuna competition and taste the recipes of the competing countries. Each participant will have the right to be part of the popular jury and to vote for the dishes tasted. Subject to availability. Tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Office of the Municipality of Carloforte in Piazza Carlo Emanuele III during the days of the event.

Girotonno Live Cooking
Little secrets, anecdotes and curiosities in the kitchen revealed by some of the major protagonists of Italian cuisine. The Girotonno live cooking are a show of cooking, taste and creativity for the visitors of the exhibition who watch the preparation of the dishes and taste the recipes of great chefs. Among the protagonists are the carlofortini Secondo Borghero of the Tonno di Corsa restaurant and Luigi Pomata, master of tuna cooking, the well-known faces of Gambero Rosso Channel Hiro and Gianfranco Pascucci, a Michelin star, Cristina Bowerman, a Michelin star, and Stefano De Gregorio chef resident of Saporie Labfrom Milan. On stage also the excellence of Sardinian cuisine with the chef Francesco Stara, one Michelin star.

The cost of the ticket is 10 euros. The ticket entitles you to a tasting of a recipe prepared by a chef and a glass of wine. Table service is provided. Subject to availability. Tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Office of the Municipality of Carloforte in Piazza Carlo Emanuele III during the days of the event.


Tuna Village
Tastes of tuna for all tastes
The recipes of the carlofortina tradition
At Tuna village , the gastronomic village of Girotonno, tuna is the real protagonist. Traditional flavors on the Mamma Mahon quay by the events staff of the Municipality of Carloforte . Every day from 12 to 15 and from 19 to 23.

The cost of the Tuna Village ticket is 15 euros and includes a menu consisting of carlofortina pie, tuna alla carlofortina, tuna beans, a canestrello and a glass of wine or water. The ticket can be purchased at the ticket office which will be set up on the Mamma Mahon quay during the days of the event.

The exhibition village is articulated on the Carloforte seafront and offers visitors the opportunity to go shopping among the local agri-food specialties and Sardinian handicraft products. Every day with non-stop hours until midnight.
